final thoughts

My favorite discoveries were utube, flicker and overdrive media

It has opened up new horizons for me - information that I did not know how to retrieve and do now

I realize now there are many subjects of interest that are available through these websites

I would like to see more hands on instruction.....

Yes, I would definitely participate again because technology is always changing

overdrive

I learned how to download this book...listened to it....saw my check out and expiration date and learned that it will be deleted in fourteen days....saw that this book cannot be burned to a cd but I can download to a mp3 player.
The 47th Samurai
Swagger Series, Book 8
Edition: Unabridged
Series: Swagger
by Stephen Hunter
Buck Schirner

Synopsis
Bob Lee Swagger and Philip Yano are bound together by a single moment at Iwo Jima, 1945, when their fathers, two brave fighters on opposite sides, met in the bloody and chaotic battle for the island. Only Earl Swagger survived.

More than sixty years later, Yano comes to America to honor the legacy of his heroic father by recovering the sword he used in the battle. His search has led him to Crazy Horse, Idaho, where Bob Lee, ex-marine and Vietnam veteran, has settled into a restless retirement and immediately pledges himself to Yano's quest.

Bob Lee finds the sword and delivers it to Yano in Tokyo. On inspection, they discover that it is not a standard WWII blade, but a legendary shin-shinto katana, an artifact of the nation. It is priceless but worth killing for. Suddenly Bob is at the center of a series of terrible crimes he barely understands but vows to avenge. And to do so, he throws himself into the world of the samurai, Tokyo's dark, criminal yakuza underworld, a...

youtube

I am very happy to be able to pick a subject and also see the video on how to......looked up yoga instructional subjects and was very happy to see how many different instructional videos I could observe. Some of the key wording is weird and I would probably get some weird videos if I was not explicit in my key search but even then you can't avoid that....good thing we have a filter.

2.0 tools

I went to the category food and I'm cooked and I like the idea of not only recipes but videos on how to prepare food.....it's fun to see what it looks like when it's done....it's excellent for someone just learning how to cook and I am also going to be involved with a gourmet cooking group in the near future which will be very helpful for me to recommend a plan for my night to cook a gourmet meal.

Wiki

The few examples of wikis were helpful in comparing the types of programs other library systems are offering....a look at the ALA 2008 anaheim, CA event....and plan events by sharing ideas. The types of applications withing libraries that might work well wih a wiki are flickr photos and delicious. One of the interesting things I learned about Wikipedia is that it is a free encyclopedia that anyone can edit.

away from the icebergs

Libraries have been seeing a drop in circulation rates ove r the past twelve years, making it harder and harder to justify the continued buildup of a large "just in case" print collection. Patrons will be expecting to access everything - digital collections of jornals, books, blogs, podcasts....libraries have to jump on this opportunity now to eliminate training and create a new type of service offered - one-button commands such as Flickr, Blog This and easy to use programs like Google page Creator offering a new model of library services. Libraries need to acknowledge and adapt to future challenges.

technorati

I found that more technical information was on pbclibrary and more personal information on web 2.0

delicious

I found that delicious helps to find a subject a lot easier when it is grouped together with other subjects and learned how to change and rename a subject.

cell phone

The cell phone technology is so diversified - it's a phone, a calendar, a watch, a camera, an alarm, a text messenger. Most people now have cancelled their land phones and only use their cell phones.

communication

It is important to have daily updates in a library on department scheduling, issues, maintenance scheduling, programs, incidents, so that staff can be well informed.

Goals

I find that most goals are very difficult to meet at times due to various interrruptions in a typical work day.....telephones, verbal interruptions, unscheduled meetings, technical difficulties, personal setbacks.....however, it is important to work toward those goals and try ways to accomplish them despite the obstacles.
